MICROWAVE AND OPTICS APPLICATIONS GROUP
The Microwave Applications Group is focused on microwave theory and applications, the study and design of high-power microwave sources, antennas, etc.
The group has a number of high-performance computing systems, as well as a number of commercial electromagnetic device simulation packages and numerical codes developed for the simulation of microwave devices. It also uses the Laboratory of Microwaves to carry out simple microwave measurements.

Research Areas
- Propagation and scattering of electromagnetic waves in microwave and optical waveguide structures.
- Theory, simulation and design of microwave source components (cavity, beam tunnel, electron gun)
- Design of MW gyrotron components with applications in Fusion.
- Simulation and support of the experimental verification of gyrotrons using in-house (EURIDICE, NESTOR, COCHLEA, FISHBONE) and commercial (CST Studio Suite, EGUN2, TRAK) numerical tools.
- Design of advanced future MW gyrotrons operating in the 2nd harmonic.
- Propagation and scattering of electromagnetic waves in composite inomogeneous and anisotropic media and in plasma.
- Computational electromagnetics: Development and optimization of computational methods and numerical tools for the study and simulation of composite electrodynamical structures.
